International Woman's Day and it's history.

International Woman's Day and it's history.

Beautiful Spring Holiday, International Women's Day is held on March 8th of every year. It's a day when we celebrate the amazing social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women.  But how did International Women's Day start?

The impetus for establishing an International Women's Day can be traced back to New York City in February 1908, when thousands of women who were garment workers went on strike and marched through the city to protest against their working conditions.

International Woman's Day was celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on March 19, 1911. More than one million women and men attended IWD rallies worldwide.

In 1913-1914 International Women's Day also became a mechanism for protesting World War I. Clara Tsetkin (Germany) is one of known activists of that time. As part of the peace movement, Russian women at first observed their first International Women's Day on the last Sunday in February.

The International Women's Day date was moved to March 8 in 1913.  The day aimed to help nations worldwide eliminate discrimination against women.  It also focused on helping women gain full and equal participation in global development.

Since then, International Women's Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women's achievements throughout history and across nations.  It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women's Rights and International Peace. It is celebrated worldwide, and is a National Holiday in many countries primarily of former Soviet Union.

The United Nations began celebrating International Women's Day in the International Women's Year, 1975. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women's rights and world peace.

We celebrate Woman's Day with flowers and more flowers. Men throughout the entire world buy and bring flowers to women in their life, to show their care and appreciation for all the beauty that their women surround them with.
